There are two international airports in Cyprus. The main one is
Larnaca International Airport, and there is a smaller one in Pafos
(Paphos). There are flights to all major destinations from both airports,
although flights out of Pafos may not be as frequent as Larnaca.
Cruise Ship
From Limassol, there are various cruise trips to Greece, the Lebanon,
the Holy Land, and Egypt.
Travelling around Cyprus itself
Driving in Cyprus is straightforward. Cars drive on the left, and main
roads are generally in good condition, although the new sewerage system
project in Paphos is causing some problems temporarily. There are
roadworks almost everywhere at the moment.
The main motorway between Larnaca and Nicosia is good, as is the
section which branches off to Limassol. The new motorway from Limassol to
Paphos was completed last year (2003) and is very good.
The bottleneck in Limassol remains. There are 6 roundabouts to
negotiate if you are travelling from Larnaca to Paphos. Work has begun to
build flyovers to bypass the roundabouts in Limassol, and the roadworks
there are causing some delays.
Roads in the centre of the main cities are often very narrow, having
been originally designed for donkey traffic.
Cars can be hired for reasonable prices from most
city centres, or from the airports. It is usually a bit more expensive to
book a car from the airport, however, it will save you the cost of a taxi,
which from Larnaca to Paphos, is now more than CYŁ50 per trip.
If you don't fancy driving yourself, there are coach
tours available. Some taxi drivers will also organise tours for smaller
parties.
