Many British high street names (Miss
Selfridge, Esprit, Next) have a presence in Cyprus
with items on sale at half the price of back home.
Nicosia's Laiki Yitonia has many lace and silver shops, while for
traditional crafts, pay a visit to the national crafts centres in the main
tourist centres, where workshops on the premises produce ceramics,
embroideries, textiles and leather goods.
Markets
When buying Cypriot silver, check for the Cyprus silver stamp so you
can be sure it is the real thing. Larnaca is a ceramic-centre with
artisans selling direct to the public along Ak Deniz and Boz-dag streets.
For lace, visit the picturesque Lefkaka, 15km inland from Larnaca.
Supermarkets
There are several good supermarkets in most cities,
although I'm more familiar with Paphos than the other centres. In Paphos
we have Papantonios, Chris Cash and Carry, and E & S. Prices are
reasonable and most things are available.
You will pay extra for out of season fruits and
vegetables, as these have to be imported. however, there is enough
variety in the local produce that you don't really need much in the way of
imported stuff.
