Very few of the beaches in the South have decent sand, most of them are
rocky or pebbly at best, but there are one or two
exceptions. If you are adventurous, or have 4 wheel drive vehicle
then drive north west, past Coral Bay to Lara
beach. It's not impossible without 4 wheel drive, but you have to be
careful of potholes. Its easy to ground a vehicle that doesn't have good
ground clearance.
Most of the beaches in Cyprus feature water sports or other activities
of one sort or another, from wind surfing to paragliding
Coral Bay features shallow waters and a long, sandy beach. Its located
10km north west of Pafos.
Kourion Beach features a long, curved beach overlooked by the 2nd century
AD Kourion amphitheatre. Its located 20km west of Limassol.
Cape Aspro, near Aphrodite's Rocks features a small sandy beach, with
steep slopes up to the clifftop.
Pissouri offers breathtaking clifftop walks. In spring the erupt with
colour as the flowers bloom, and the bearded vultures arrive to nest in
May.
Governor's Beach, East of Limassol, is a good sandy beach which is
excellent for a family day out.
Ayia Napa features several beaches, all with lovely gently sloping white
sand.
